Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival
What I learned from my Accountant; and what the Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival taught me about teamwork, listening, and leadership:
What a great weekend! I spent last weekend immersed in a folk and bluegrass festival — performing, learning, listening, and connecting with some truly wonderful people.
I had the chance to play with a professional bluegrass band in a workshop, explore the craft of playing in a duo, learn how to sing in harmony, and soak up countless performances that reminded me why I love music education so much.
What struck me most, though, is how much these experiences echo life beyond music:
- Listening closely and responding to others creates real connection.
- Harmony comes from balancing difference and unity.
- Growth happens when we keep learning and sharing ideas.
I came home feeling recharged, grateful, and full of ideas — both for my music and for how we work, teach, and collaborate more broadly.
Huge thanks to everyone I met and played with… and to my diligent and honest accountant for assuring me that learning with an instrument in hand can indeed count as professional development!
