Music with Meaning: Our Tribute to Jimmy Cliff "I Can See Clearly Now"
During the long months of pandemic lockdowns and Zoom lessons (yes, those days!), I made a conscious decision to focus on uplifting, positive music — songs that could lift spirits, build connection, and keep a sense of optimism and community alive through challenging times.
One of those songs was “I Can See Clearly Now” by the legendary Jimmy Cliff. Its hopeful message made it a perfect choice for group learning and collaboration, and it became the foundation for this special music video project.
This video showcases not only a heartfelt tribute to Jimmy Cliff — the award-winning Jamaican musician who helped bring reggae music to the world — but also the dedication, musicianship, and teamwork of my wonderful students. Jimmy Cliff sadly passed away recently, and this project stands as a celebration of his enduring legacy and influence.
I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together: from musical growth and ensemble skills to the commitment required to complete a project of this scale. It’s a great example of what can happen when learning is personalised, community-focused, and driven by joy.
